A battered, dilapidated house in a good location seemed to have the potential to host the program. The triangular farm was not too small to be able to solve the lack of orthogonality in a simple way.

This rounded chamfer, where two emblematic streets meet during the Maó festivities, draws attention, and the people of the neighborhood baptized it “Na redona”… not all the houses have a name.

Through the Cós the horses go up towards the “ermita”, through Gràcia they descend towards the “plaça”, the façades of the house accompany this route facing east, south and west. The third side of the triangle is the north party wall, the blind one.

The rest of the year it is the last house of its kind. The last house of the Cós on the left, “Na redona”. Right there the expansion begins with denser typologies, sometimes too much.

Wonderful details were visible among the rubble; it’s not easy to fix a gabled tile roof inside a triangle, but some old master of houses had managed it there, very skilfully.

The variable height of the façade caused by the increased length of the beams was absorbed by the cornice, which in turn contained a rainwater collection channel and led it to the cistern.

Today, with much more precise tools, we pay homage to it and give it prominence, also turning it into a lintel for the three large patio openings.

You want to respect the typology, the style. The large blocks of “marès” that are removed from one part are used in another, as are the few wooden beams that could be saved.

The exterior carpentry will be made of wood, with an exterior beam, to give a little space to the rooms, or a bench next to the windows, and the jambs open in a chamfer towards the interior, to better spread the natural light, seeking to preserve the aroma of the original house.

The night area is located on the ground floor, avoiding what we see very often in the city, a dining room or a living room with the blinds permanently closed in the name of privacy.

The staircase is important, it is located in the north dividing wall and in the center of the house, its position allows two vehicles to be parked, one from each street. It rises above the roof to send natural light to the only part of the house that does not have a façade. It also generates convection by venting hot air at its highest point.

The day area is upstairs, there is more light here, the windows reach the floor and the ceiling is high. All the spaces open onto the patio through a glass façade and the sun bathes the entire floor from morning until sunset. The walls that once enclosed bedrooms now only protect the patio from the wind and the views and will never again have to support the weight of a slab.
